Top 5 Ways to Maxmize Your Workouts

5. Warm Up Dynamically

A very common misconception to working out is how to properly warm up. Many people feel that static stretching before lifting is best. However this is not the case. Static stretching, or stretches that you hold anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds, actually weaken the muscle group you are about to work. The best way to warm up is dynamically. For instance, if you were going to do bench press in your workout you would not want to statically stretch your triceps and pecs. Better results would come from doing a light set of bench press with just the bar before you move on to heavier sets. If you don't feel like doing just the bar then a set of pushups would suffice as well.
